About mima architects.

Jemima Manton is both an architect and an art curator - mima sits at this crossroad.

MIMA - pronounced MY-MA - merges expert knowledge in the fields of the arts, architecture, narrative and construction. With extensive experience in projects ranging from residential to large scale public, MIMA is an architecture and interior design practice specialising in unique projects that pursue timelessness. MIMA is fascinated by the process of using stories and history - be it of a place, a person or an object - to help inform design of all types. Employing a vast range of ideas, references, histories, methods, materials and objects - from the unorthodox to the pedigreed.

As a collective - MIMA knows that design doesn’t exist in a vacuum. We are highly responsive to client budgets, briefs and sites. Understanding the motives and vision of you, the client, is paramount. A good design outcome stems from a thorough investigation and understanding of a proposed site -  including artistic, historical, topographical and climatic influences,  pragmatic limitations of construction (read opportunities!), suitability of materials, and ever important real life budgetary constraints - client set budgets are to be respected. Most importantly - MIMA aims to facilitate an enjoyable process for the clients and design team. This is brought about by good communication throughout the journey. Being a small firm - all clients have the bespoke opportunity of one on one interactions with Jemima, the studio Principal.

MIMA knows that successful architecture responds to multiple pressures in a graceful and innovative manner. These pressures may include available budget or time. MIMA sees these as opportunities to rigorously test ideas to create designs that fit the brief. Central to MIMAs work are quality, long-term relationships with clients, builders, craftsmen and consultants. Good architecture comes from cumulative effort from all involved.

MIMA knows that this good architecture will be intergenerational. As well as a responsible use of our earth's finite resources. MIMA pursues quality design that responds to the needs of a client or group of users in a way that is functional, beautiful and engaging.  A building that is loved and lived in will ultimately be maintained and cherished over a long period of time.

Jemima Manton

Jemima Manton (Principal) is an award winning architect and an art curator with a strong understanding of hands-on construction methods. She has extensive experience in design, detailing, construction, and project management. Her collaborative approach of creativity coupled with strong budgetary oversight and buildability results in high quality, successful projects that represent the client.

Jemima is a supremely talented professional. Not only can she bring her architectural nouse to any project but her creative and design eye is second-to-none. I’ve had the pleasure of working with her across various projects and no matter the brief, she’s been able to offer unbelievable concepts to suit our varying needs and specifications. To add even further to her bucket, she’s also got the ability to project manage projects of any scale; from small right up to large builds. This has been an invaluable asset to my business, especially when it comes to dealing with multi-million dollar projects and a large number of stakeholders who are challenging to deal with when you’re not typically in the building space. Her sourcing abilities are phenomenal too and she’s always been able to find a product or solution we’ve been looking for. I could not recommend her more, she’s a true gem to find in a very busy and competitive market.
